ADR Session

FINALLLYYY started on the ADR session for the upcoming Glasgow based Super Hero Movie NIGHT IS DAY!
First day was with our leading man Chris Summerville who blew us away with his ability to lip sync - so very chuffed but its been a bit of a slow start as our second day had to be cancelled due to babysitting issues but were back on form tomorrow and ready to go again - this time with the wonderful Mark Harvey who also starred in my docunentary Super Mark, so it should be a good day.

Here's a few pictures to get you in the spirit of what were doing.

Ok, so this may be the last post for a while as this is the last assignment for uni before my masters project which wont be finished till September.
This is an experimental film produced for uni inspired by the 1920's film movement Absolute Film where images were formed in the was music was written and has no narrative content.
We're thinking about using this as a projection piece for my band...
Thoughts please!

Finally!
Here's a short mockumentary we produced recently for my uni course. My first attempt at writing a comedy - mostly comes from Mark's quick wit and ingenious improvisation though. What a star!
Assignment brief was to use only location sound for the final edit so no fancy sound effects, only manipulation. Hope you enjoy it!

Greenock Old Boys

Hello again!

Just thought I'd share this nice photo that was taken whilst filming last week at the McLean Gallery in Greenock. I was doing the sound recording for Claymore Entertainment (aka Mark Peberdy - on the right) as part of a film that is being produced for the Scotts exhibition in the summer.

This is part of the same exhibition that ive been invited to do the sound design for the main exhibition hall. Progress is definitely underway for this project and i'll be collecting some of the sound bites for last week to use within my sound design!

On other business, the final edit for Night is Day has been signed off and we're getting into the groove of post production... All the while i'm fitting uni around all these projects and i'll be updating some more of my uni work soon!

February Updates

Well, yesterday was extremely exciting as I was working as a Location Sound Recordist for a corporate job for Silly Wee Films.
We were filming speeches, interviews and event presentations, brushing up on my problem solving skills (believe me there was a lotttt of problem solving to do!) as well as new ways of working such like taking live feeds from the PA for audio recording. I met a looot of very inspirational and motivational people and it confirmed for me that I definitely loooooooove location sound recording.
Fingers crossed they're impressed with my work yesterday and hopefully get offered more work in the future :D

I'm still working with Stirling University producing their teaching DVD. I'm soon finding out that working with clients takes a looooot longer than what you are able to produce by yourself, especially in this job, working with vulnerable people and make sure they're not being exploited... However, DVD launch is set for the 9th of March so hopefully everything will come together and work out for the best. Really looking forward to seeing the finished product!

I'm also still working on the commission for the Greenock Museum. Again client formalities has slowed me down, waiting for confirmation etc etc etc so still looking forward getting proerly started at doing some more Sound Design but i'll definetly keep you posted with that!

FINALLY (a lot is happening right now) its getting to the stage where Night Is Day is swiftly moving into post production and i'll soon be in the studio working on the final edit YAY! You can check out more details of this venture here : http://www.nightisday.net/

Well, not quite but the short film "Legs" which I worked on recently received a great comment which I will now pass onto you:

"Just a fun note for you: I watched "Legs" for the first time with the sound turned off, as my audio wasn't set up. I got the impression that it was a man getting home from work, followed by his wife. When I watched it again with audio on, I was amazed at how the music interacted perfectly build completely different expectations in the viewer - and the suspense was stunning!"

Note: I don't actually know who said this but it was a potential client of one of the filmmakers who worked on the film!

Just goes to show how important good audio is for you're project, even if its just a short!

Ok, i have to admit - this isnt my best work....
This assignment was to reimagine the audio for the opening sequence of Ingmar Bergmans 1966 film Persona.
It was due the day after my extended birthday weekend and a reading week. Suffice to say i didnt put as much effort in as i would have hoped but i did have a superb birthday!
This is the result - it works but its not amazing... Well, you make up your mind!
This interpretation features extracts from Aereogrammes' The Question Is Complete, also Interlude by Panic at the Disco hahaha

Masters Course!

I've been a bit quiet on the showreel stuff for a while - ive gone back to uni so been hectically busy with that! However, its a Masters Course in Sound for the Moving Image so the blog will be heartily updated with new assignments and materials I'm going to be producing for that!
On that note, this is the first piece of work ive created. its a sound design piece using a slideshow of photographs and pictures of the Glasgow Clyde Built Era!

Hey guys,

Just a wee update to tell you all whats happening with me just now.
I'm currently working as a Location Sound Recordist on Silly Wee Film's Glasgow based feature film - Night is Day.
Working with a fab team of folk on a sci-fi / superhero film hopefully to be released early next year. We've got about a months worth of shooting left, but only shooting at the weekends makes things take a bit longer - everything's going smoothly so far and will keep you up to date with significant dates and events.
Next one is Collectormania at Breahead arena on the 21st and 22nd of Aug which is our first big public showing of trailors and characters etc. - Will be very exciting!

Just a wee post to inform you that Douglas Watson and I won the "Outstanding Audio Post Production" award at the UWS awards on the 13th of May for our sound design work for "The Watchmakers Son" (shown below) and was shown at the CCA in Glasgow! We won an MBox2 - really really chuffed! Hope you enjoy the film!

Been working on the music design for my new Film project - a complete audio replacement on a short film by Whitestone pictures.

Absolutely loving creating the atmosphere and tension using the almost symphonic-like 'Alternate Score' by Aereogramme (with full permission, of course!) and re-writing the narrative script for a darker and more emotional feel... well thats what i'm hoping!

So stay tuned - i got a good feeling about this one!
